Applying via the Visa Center (CVASC)
The standard application process for students in the UK, Canada, Australia, Europe, and most of Asia.
If you are applying from a country that uses the Chinese Visa Application Service Center (CVASC), you will not be dealing with the Chinese Embassy directly. Instead, you will submit your documents to a commercial service provider.
This process is generally faster and more organized, but it comes with an additional "Service Fee" on top of the visa cost.

All applications for this model start at the official global portal:
- Click the link above.
- Select your Country and City (e.g., United Kingdom -> London).
- You will be redirected to the specific site for that center.
Step-by-Step Application Guide
Step 1: The Online Application Form
On your center's website, look for "Quick Access" > "Online Application."
- Time Required: 45–60 minutes.
- Requirements: You must upload your digital photo here.
- Crucial: The form is very long. Save your "Application ID" immediately so you can pause and return later.
- Output: Once finished, download and print the Full Application Form (usually 8 pages) and the Confirmation Page. Sign both documents.
Step 2: Book an Appointment
You generally cannot walk in without an appointment.
- On the same website, go to "Online Appointment."
- Use your Application ID to book a time slot.
- Peak Season Warning: In July/August, slots can fill up 2–3 weeks in advance. Book early!
Step 3: Visit the Center
On the day of your appointment, go to the Visa Center address (not the Embassy).
- Arrive Early: Arrive 15 minutes before your slot.
- Queue System: You will get a ticket number. Wait for your number to be called.
- Submission: Hand over your passport, photos, forms, and the university document package (Admission + JW Form).
- Interview: Most students do not need an interview. The clerk will simply check your documents.
Step 4: Payment & Collection
- Payment: You usually pay after they accept your documents (or sometimes upon collection, depending on the center).
- The Cost: You will pay two fees:
- Visa Fee: Goes to the Chinese Government.
- Service Fee: Goes to the Visa Center for processing your application.
- Timeline: Standard processing is usually 4 business days. Express options (2-3 days) may be available for a higher fee.
Biometrics: Fingerprint Collection
China now requires biometric data for most visa applicants.
- The Rule: You must be physically present to submit 10 fingerprints electronically at the Visa Center.
- Exemptions:
- Applicants under 14 years old or over 70 years old.
- Applicants whose fingerprints were collected by the same Chinese Visa Center/Embassy with the same passport within the last 5 years.
- Consequence: Because of this requirement, you cannot mail in your application for your first Chinese visa. You must travel to the city where the center is located.
What to Bring to the Center
Make sure you have this physical pile of documents in your hand:
- Original Passport.
- Printed & Signed "Confirmation Page."
- Printed & Signed "Visa Application Form" (all pages).
- 2 Physical Photos (33mm x 48mm).
- Original Admission Notice + 1 Copy.
- Original JW201/JW202 Form + 1 Copy.
- Proof of Residence (if applicable).
💡 MAILING SERVICE
Some Visa Centers offer a "Return by Mail" service. If you live far from the city (e.g., you live in Manchester but applied in London), ask the counter staff if you can pay extra to have your passport mailed back to you so you don't have to travel twice.
